Privacy Notice & Data Protection

At Saint Ambrose Barlow Catholic Primary School, we are a “Data Controller” for the purposes of the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR). We collect and hold personal information about our pupils and may receive information about them from previous schools and the Learning Records Service.

Why we collect and use pupil information: We use pupil data to:

  • Support pupil learning and the delivery of the curriculum.

  • Monitor and report on pupil progress (including through our Insight assessment platform).

  • Provide appropriate pastoral care and ensure pupil wellbeing.

  • Assess the quality of our services and comply with the law regarding data sharing.

The categories of pupil information that we collect, hold, and share include:

  • Personal information: (such as name, unique pupil number and address).

  • Characteristics: (such as ethnicity, language, nationality, and free school meal eligibility).

  • Attendance information: (such as sessions attended, number of absences and absence reasons).

  • Assessment information: (such as national curriculum assessment results and internal progress tracking).

  • Relevant medical information and Special Educational Needs (SEN) data.

The lawful basis on which we use this information: We collect and use pupil information under the “Public Task” and “Legal Obligation” lawful bases. This ensures we can provide an education and comply with the Department for Education’s statutory requirements.

Requesting access to your personal data: Under data protection legislation, parents and pupils have the right to request access to information about them that we hold. To make a request for your personal information, or be given access to your child’s educational record, please contact Mr Doherty at the school office.

We will not give information about you to anyone without your consent unless the law and our policies allow us to.

We are required by law to pass some information about you to our Local Authority (LA) and the Department for Education.
